Ethos in New Zealand-Across the Tasman with Ethos
3rd May 2016
Mark Douglas has recently returned from a week in New Zealand, discussing research leadership, building research culture and research mentoring.
Here there is a sharp focus on the tension between building individual research profiles and the ‘benefit’ of working across disciplines or in research teams.
Research clusters are strong but they need to be carefully managed to enable individuals to ‘shine’ in publication and grant funding as well as building the profile of the group.
Under these circumstances the research leader must work hard on the balance between enabling others to succeed with a spirit of generosity while maintaining a strong individual research profile.
